Sadao "Larry" Sakai's Obituary
Sadao “Larry” Sakai, 91, of Kahului, Maui, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025, from pneumonia. Known affectionately as Larry, he was a kind, hardworking, and humble man whose warmth and quiet humor touched everyone who knew him.
Born and raised in Spreckelsville, Sadao proudly served in the National Guard and spent much of his life working at HC&S, where his dedication and strong work ethic earned him the respect of coworkers and friends alike. In his younger days, he was an accomplished bowler who loved the friendly competition and camaraderie it brought. In later years, he traded his bowling ball for golf clubs and enjoyed spending time on the course and playing cards with friends each week — simple pleasures that brought him joy and laughter.
He shared over fifty years of love and companionship with Naomi Suezaki, his devoted lifelong partner.
Sadao was the son of Noboru and Sadame Sakai. He was preceded in death by his brother Wayne Sakai, and is survived by his sisters Jane Okano, Elaine (Donald) Yoshida, and Margie Takaki, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family who will always remember his generosity, steady presence, and gentle heart.
A private celebration of life will be held. No kōden or flowers, please — your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.
