Paul Analu DePonte's Obituary
Paul Analu DePonte, 61 passed away on September 23, 2021 in Kahului, Maui, Hawaii. Our community sadly lost a fabulous waterman which was his way of life. Everyone knew him as Analu, he was a Barrel Master, O.G. and overall a true Maui Boy! He spent countless hours of his time on earth well spent in the ocean surfing and teaching. From the north shore of Maui which included Peahi, Ho’okipa to south shore Ma’alaea all the way to the westside Honolua. He was a respected surfer of Hawai’i nei and all over the world. Analu’s infectious personality and kolohe attitude will be truly missed by many.
He is preceded in death by his parents Manuel “Big Boy” DePonte & Karen Lum Ho DePonte Vida, grandparents Manuel (Agnes) DePonte, Obed (Alice) Lum Ho, sister Sandra Punani DePonte, brother Glenn DePonte. He is survived by Step dad Royal Vida Jr., nephew Christian Mehrer, sister Leeanda (Richard) Galdones,, grand nieces Shantel Kalehua Poulin Deponte, Tiana Galdones DePonte, and grand nephew Dallas Kalei Ikaika Galdones DePonte, and numerous cousins.
Analu’s celebration of life will be on Saturday November 27, 2021 at 10a.m. at Baldwin Beach Park, Paia Maui. His ashes will be joined with his brother Glenn.
