Mikio "Mike" Takamatsu's Obituary
Mikio “Mike” Takamatsu, of Kula, Maui, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Wailuku, he was the fifth of nine children of Fusata and Shikano Takamatsu.
A U.S. Army veteran, Mike served in the Korean War with the Heavy Mortar Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, spending nine months supporting the defense of the UN static line at Kumbhwa—service he carried with honor throughout his life.
Following his military discharge, Mike earned his FAA and FCC license, worked for Douglas Aircraft in El Segundo, and attended the Northrop Aeronautical Institute. In 1959, he began a 29-year career with United Airlines, later serving as Manager of Line Maintenance in San Francisco until his retirement in 1988.
Upon returning to Maui, Mike made his home in Kula and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, generously contributing his skills to support local families.
He is survived by his wife, Myriam; children by marriage, Richard and Catherine; grandchildren, Brian, Carter, Nick, and Angelina; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Calvin, and Leon. Nephews, Will, Ronald, Michael, Amy and Susie, great nephews Scott, and John. He will be remembered as a man of service, work ethic, and devotion to his family and community.
