Mark Allen Long's Obituary
It is with profound sadness and with faith in the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ that we announce the passing of Mark, age 55, born in Santa Monica, California. Mark went home to God after a sudden and unexpected passing.
Mark lived a life full of energy, humor, and fire — the kind of man who didn’t pretend to be anything other than exactly who he was. He grew up by the ocean in Santa Monica, where salt air, sunsets, fishing poles, and the steady crash of waves shaped him from the beginning.
Mark wasn’t a quiet or gentle soul — he was bold, stubborn, funny, and full of spirit. He struggled with alcohol and fought more than most, but he also laughed more than most. He loved joking around, teasing people he cared about, and finding humor in everyday life. If there was a good time happening, Mark wanted to be in the middle of it.
He loved fishing, football, baseball, good food, good company, and the kind of nights where the ocean breeze felt like home. Later in life, he moved to Maui, Hawaii, where the sunsets were bigger, the water warmer, and the pace of life matched the part of him that always belonged near the sea.
Mark shared a lifelong bond with his twin brother, Mike — two brothers born together, different in many ways, but connected in a way only twins can be. Even after Mike passed, Mark carried that connection with him, and now they are together again.
Mark is survived by his sister Shirley and her husband Frederick, his sister Victoria, and his son Daniel, who carries a different last name but remains part of Mark’s story and legacy. He is also survived by Cathleen, as well as many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Although the nieces and nephews never had the chance to meet him, they remain part of his family story.
Mark’s passing was sudden, and he left this world quickly. His family takes comfort in knowing he did not suffer. Though his life had its struggles, it also had joy, humor, and moments of real beauty — especially near the ocean he loved so much.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 “Whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” — John 3:16 “My peace I give you.” — John 14:27
He will be remembered for his smile, his jokes, his love of the water, and the way he lived life on his own terms. Mark leaves behind loved ones who will hold onto the memories of the man he truly was — imperfect, funny, stubborn, warm, and unforgettable.
