Josefina Pudiquet Bumanglag's Obituary
Josefina "Siping" Pudiquet Bumanglag was born on April 6,
1929, in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a devoted
wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her
unconditional love and unwavering support brought comfort to
those around, and her warm smile could brighten anyone's day.
Josefina was a hardworking Filipino woman who previously
had a small business in the Philippines. She prepared, cooked,
and sold various Ilocano dishes. She went to many barangays
and neighboring cities to sell, which made her popular amongst
the community.
Crossing stony, slippery rivers and enduring long walks while
carrying a heavy, hot pot of singkutsar on top of her head was
not a hindrance for her to make a living. During weekends, she
went to the city to sell nakurti, bleached, dried cow skin, for
leather. To help her husband's small business, she sold it to
businesses that made shoes and knife cases.
She also helped her husband and other family members in the
fields grow rice and various vegetables, such as American bell
peppers, and sold large truckloads of the bell peppers to Manila.
All while taking care of her family.
When Josefina came to Maui, Hawai'i, she worked full-time as a
groundskeeper at Kamaole Sands and part-time at McDonald's.
When she retired, she did babysitting part-time. She, of course,
babysat her grandchildren for free. In her free time, she liked to
watch teleseryes and had hobbies such as sewing and knitting.
For the rest of her life, she continued cooking, which she
enjoyed and was very good at, and took great care of her family.
Josefina passed away on November 10, 2025, at home
surrounded by her family. Though she may no longer be with us
in the physical sense, the impact she made on our lives will
forever remain. Now peacefully in God's hands.
