Survived by son, James “Kimo” (Lisa) Apana, Jr.; daughters, Aileen (Ken) Hodgson, Lori (Kenneth Tanaka) Migita, Tammy Apana; grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Hodgson, Jennifer (Shannon), Valerie and Mitchell Migita, and Allyson Fukuyama; brothers, Dennis (Marsha) Apana, Richard (Karen) Apana; sisters, Patricia (D Tom) Lunn, Cynthia Apana, Clare Apana, sister-in-law, Liline Apana; nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by wife, April, father Atana, mother Helen and siblings Carl (Joyce), Andrew and Sue (James) Nagamine.
Gifted with many skills Jimmy owned several small businesses: A mechanic shop, The Hot Wok Café and a charcoal company, Maui Kiawe Charcoal. He was always willing to lend a hand and the Apana Ohana would frequently be seen working at community and political functions. Ohana is a Hawaiian term for “family” but Jimmy embraced the extended meaning which includes not only the blood-related but also the extended family of friends and acquaintances. One of Jimmy’s last endeavors was to make bentos for the striking UPW hospital workers. In a wheelchair, pushed by daughter, Tammy, Jimmy joined the picket line. He will be missed but Jimmy’s spirit lives on within the hearts of the Apana Ohana.
Rest in peace! A Hui Hou!
