Ethel Miyo Ujiie's Obituary
Ethel Miyo Ujiie, 96, of Pukalani, Maui passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024 at her care home in Kahului.
She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.
Ethel worked for the State of Hawaii as a SASA (School Administrative Services Assistant) for various schools on Maui before retiring in 1985. Her pride and joy in her retirement years were her two grandchildren.
She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends, serving her church, taking classes at the Kauanoa Senior Center, and going to Las Vegas with her senior friends.
She is survived by her son Norbert (Laura) Ujiie and her grandchildren, Jennifer Ujiie and Brian (Clara) Ujiie; brothers Tsuzuki, Akira, Roy, Rodney (Gina), and Richard Matsumura. Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Herbert and their children, Norma, Duane, and Alvin; brothers Yuwao, Howard, and Dennis Matsumura; and sister Ellen Nakamoto.
The family would like thank Toho no Hikari Maui Church for conducting the funeral services for Ethel. We would also like to express our gratitude to her dear friend Russell Takashima, Bella and Frank Ariota, Nelly and Jesse Hinoguin, the staff at Kaiser Maui, and Islands Hospice for the compassionate care and friendship they provided for Ethel.
A private family service was held.
