Earl Ray Kanakaonae Kukahiko's Obituary
Earl Ray Kanakaonae Kukahiko was born on December 16,1930 to the Reverend John and Daisey Kukahiko, in Honokohua Maui, the sixth of nine children. He attended Honokohua School and as a boarder at Lahainaluna High. Upon graduation he was hired as a farm foreman, affectionately earning the nickname "Chief" where he worked before retiring with 33 years of service for the Department of Education. Some of his accomplishments include; the mentoring of multitudes of youths that braved leaving the comforts of home to board at Lahainaluna, serving in the U.S. Army National Guards, the rejuvenation and organization of Hawaiian Canoe racing on Maui. a member of Kauanoa Seniors, teaching ukulele and performing at numerous events and Kahu of Waiola Church. He passed away at home on May 25,2019. Services will be held on Saturday, June 29th at Waiola Church, 9am. publice viewing, service at 12 noon, followed by pa'ina at the Hale Halawai. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Michiko, three children Earle (Teresa), Glynis, and Kory (Sandy), one hanai daughter Anela and one predeceased daughter, Barbie. Five grandchildren, Keneke (Lei). Kaleka (William) Wilson Mahele, Shelton and Eala, and two great grandchildren Keiji Kanaka and Kairee Akemi.
