Dionisio "John" Aguinaldo Evangelista's Obituary
Dionisio "John" Aguinaldo Evangelista, 86, of Kahului, Maui, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2026, at Maui Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Dionisio was preceded in death by his father, Antonio Salvador Evangelista, his mother Bruna Aguinaldo Evangelista, and his siblings: brothers Sabas (Soledad), Roman (Laureana), and Bonifacio (Lydia); and sisters Naty, Sion (Marcelino), Jovencia, Sintang (Ariston), Sergia, and Conching (Eddie).
In 1973, Dionisio arrived on Maui, where he met the love of his life, Justina Daleja, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. Together they built a home filled with devotion, resilience, and deep family roots.
He is survived by his wife, Justina Daleja Evangelista, and their sons: Ernesto (Teri), Danny (Prima), and Allen (Eliza). He was a proud grandfather to Elijah, Malia, and Natalie, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Dionisio was a hardworking man who found joy and purpose in farming. After long shifts at HC&S, he would head straight to his garden in Waihe'e, where he lovingly tended rows of Filipino vegetables. He also raised pigs in Wailuku with a close friend, always willing to put in the extra effort to provide for his family. Even after retiring, his passion for farming never faded. His wife, Justina, was always by his side, helping him in the fields and sharing in the simple, steady rhythm of the life they built together.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026: Public viewing 6:00 p.m., Prayer Service 7:00 p.m. Additional services will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026: Public viewing 9:00 a.m., Mass 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at the Garden of Meditation at 12:30 p.m. Lunch to follow after the burial at Christ the King Hall.
Dionisio will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his quiet strength, and the deep love he held for his family. His hands built a life of humility and purpose, and his legacy lives on in the values he passed down to his children and grandchildren. Those who knew him will forever cherish his gentle spirit, his dedication to providing for others, and the simple joy he found in tending the land he loved.
