Maui Memorial Park and Nakamura Mortuary welcomes our customers celebrating Ching Ming during the month of March.
The Ching Ming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, is a traditional Chinese holiday observed on the 105th day after the Winter Solstice. Celebrated by ethnic Chinese in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, it is a time to honor and pay respects to ancestors by visiting and cleaning their tombs. The festival falls on the first day of the fifth solar term in the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. During this period, families visit the tombs of their ancestors to clean gravesites and make ritual offerings, including traditional food dishes and the burning of joss sticks and joss paper. The holiday recognizes the traditional reverence of one's ancestors in Chinese culture.
